This is a Clare trip that starts where most visitors actually land — Shannon Airport — and moves west in stages. You are not pretending Ennis is beside Lahinch. You are using south and central Clare for what they are good at, then committing to the coast when the driving makes sense.
Day 1 — arrive and settle
Collect a car at the airport. If you land with enough daylight and energy, Shannon Golf Club is the credible arrival-day round — the club describes it as about five minutes from the terminal. If you do not, check into Bunratty or Shannon town and walk Bunratty Castle & Folk Park or eat at Durty Nelly's. See golf near Shannon Airport for the full airport picture.

Day 2 — parkland before the links
Pick one inland round before you head west. Dromoland if you want the estate experience and are staying on site or nearby; Ennis if you have moved your base to the county town. Both are parkland — a deliberate contrast before Lahinch.

Newmarket-on-Fergus · Resort
An 18-hole estate parkland course within the grounds of Dromoland Castle near Newmarket-on-Fergus.
Shannon Airport to Lahinch is about 50–55 km — typically 40–50 minutes by road. That is a move-day drive, not a quick hop after a transatlantic flight.
Days 3–4 — Lahinch and the west coast

Lahinch Golf Club
Lahinch · Links
Two links courses beside Lahinch village, led by the internationally renowned Old Course and complemented by the more accessible Castle Course.
Base in Lahinch for the headline links. Spanish Point is 11–15 minutes south on the N67 if you want a second coastal round. Our Lahinch golf base itinerary covers the village logic in more detail.
Day 5 — westward or homeward
If you are continuing west before flying home, Kilrush fits naturally on the N67 toward Doonbeg — member-run parkland at a fraction of the links fees. If you are returning to Shannon for an afternoon flight, a morning round at Shannon or Dromoland is more realistic than squeezing in Kilrush and a 60-minute drive back. See getting around for route notes.
Stays: airport hotels for night one, Dromoland or Ennis for night two, then Lahinch for the coast — places to stay lists researched options in each area.
